Business Sectors
Advanced Design and Manufacturing
New Hampshire is ranked high in the U.S. for advanced design and manufacturing. Companies here excel at designing and making high-tech products for other companies around the world.
New Hampshire's close proximity to the Boston metro market and southern New England has attracted people who worked in Boston and who left large companies to start their own business in New Hampshire. GT Solar in Merrimack, Bottom Line Technologies in Portsmouth, and Hypertherm in Hanover, are just three examples of hundreds of high-tech companies that have started and grown in New Hampshire. They have found that they can draw customers and skilled labor from all over New England, while operating without the burden of high taxes and high cost of living found elsewhere in the Northeast. (See the state-to-state comparison.)
