The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), signed in 2021 by President Biden, provides $65 billion to support infrastructure planning, digital inclusion initiatives, and deployment projects across the country. Together with earlier federal funding, including the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), states are closing the digital divide and increasing access to reliable high-speed internet.
As one of the first states to receive approval for its broadband expansion plan under ARPA, New Hampshire is working to bring access to thousands of underserved and unserved areas of the state.
Under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the Department of Business and Economic Affairs’ (BEA) Office of Broadband Initiatives was allocated $196.5 million from the
Broadband Equity, Access and Deployment (BEAD) program in 2023. BEA will use this funding to bring high-speed broadband to the unserved and underserved locations in the state.
Under IIJA, the State of New Hampshire was allocated $4.9 million from the Digital Equity Capacity Grant Program in 2024. BEA will use this funding to ensure that individuals, regardless of their socioeconomic status, geographical location, or other demographic factors, have access to and opportunities for meaningful participation in the digital world.
